It is with sorrow and gratitude that we mark the passing of Bernice Fincher, 92, — sorrow at the loss, gratitude for the life.

Below, the family shares some of what made her life meaningful.

The story begins in 1932, with the arrival of a life that would be cherished by many.

A life of many years is a life of many gifts to those who knew it.

Bernice Fincher, 92 of Lennox, passed away on December 10, 2024 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 am Monday, December 16, 2024 at the Chancellor Reformed Cemetery, rural Chancellor. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 am Monday at the Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home, Parker. Following the service, the public is welcome to join the family for a time of food and fellowship at the Prosper Event Hall, 46620 278th Ave, Lennox from 1:00-3:00 PM. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home. She found the courage to come alone, and God met her there. Bernice Mary (Pollman) Fincher was born on May 17, 1932 to Sam and Bertha (Wipf) Pollman on the family farm southwest of Bridgewater. They attended the Neu Hutterthaler Mennonite Church where she was baptized on September 7, 1947. She attended Bridgewater High School, graduating in 1951. Bernice worked a variety of jobs, most proudly at Sioux Valley Hospital and the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. It is there that she learned of her future husband, Dale Fincher. They were married on June 30, 1957. To this union four children were born Darwin, Darla, David, and Darrell. They moved to Lennox in the summer of 1968 and lived there until she passed. Bernice loved her flowers, her gift of chatting to all friends, and thought of by all as a loving mother and friend. Bernice will be missed. She is survived by her daughter Darla (John) VanderLaan; sons Darwin, David, and Darrell (Tammy) Fincher, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister Beverly (Bryan) Schulke; brother Kip Pollman; and sister-in-law Alice Pollman. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Bertha, husband Dale Fincher, sister Bertha (Willard) Becker, and brothers Sam (Shirley) Pollman and Joesph Pollman.
