The family of James "Jim" Huber, 90, announces his passing, and invites all who knew him to remember him here.

These are the contours of a life that meant a great deal to many.

James's story began in 1934, and unfolded across the years that followed.

James spent his working life as ['the Parker Schools'] and held deeply to the Presbyterian faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Behind the medals and ribbons was a person — and that person mattered most.

Jim Huber, 90 of Parker, passed away on January 22, 2025 at Ava's House in Sioux Falls. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 1, 2025 at the First Presbyterian Church, Parker. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, January 31, at Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home, Parker. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home. James Charles Huber was born on April 12, 1934 in Fulton, SD to Charles and Julia (Cunningham) Huber. He attended Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, SD. Jim served in the US Army and spent 26 months in Germany. Upon discharge Jim held various teaching positions in the area before beginning his 38-year career in the Parker Schools, where he was a much-loved elementary teacher of math and English. He was best known for his love and knowledge of South Dakota history. He was named the South Dakota History Teacher of Year in 1997. Jim was united in marriage to Marge (Herrick) Nelson on December 23, 1972. They enjoyed living together in Parker until Marge's death in 2017. Jim continued to live in Parker, residing the last five years in his apartment at Turner Village, where he looked forward to his Tuesday and Thursday game days with his friends. Jim was very active in the Presbyterian Church, serving as elder, Clerk of the Session and Sunday School teacher. He also was chairman for Heritage Park Fair Committee and the Parker Food Pantry. He was active in Sertoma and Optimist Clubs. In addition, he enjoyed reading, gardening, feeding the birds, attending the Turner County Fair and playing cards, dominos and slot machines. Above all else he loved and cared deeply for his family. Blessed to have shared his life are his stepdaughter Renee (Don) Munce, grandsons Brent (Joleen) and Thayne (Hannah), 4 great grandchildren (Tim, Carly, Hansen and Barron), and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Earl Huber, Delton Huber, Janice Anderson, loving wife Marge, and nephew Ronnie Anderson.
