Lyle Moldrem, 77,, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved him dearly.

These pages are a small offering toward a much larger life.

Lyle's story began in 1946, and unfolded across the years that followed.

Lyle spent his working life as ['Telelect in Huron'] and held deeply to the Lutheran faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

What is held in faith is rarely lost.

Lyle Moldrem, 77 of Marion, formerly of Wessington Springs, passed away on April 8, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. Memorial Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM Saturday, April 13, 2024 at the Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Chapel, Marion. Burial will be held at the South Dakota Veteran's Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the family or directly to the Wessington Springs Pheasants Forever Chapter for youth activities. Lyle J. Moldrem was born on September 18, 1946 in Sioux Falls, SD and raised by his loving parents, Leonard & Gladys (Boyd) Moldrem. He was confirmed into the Christian Faith on May 15, 1960 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs. Lyle attended Meyer Country School & Long Lake Country School before graduating from Wessington Springs High School in 1964. Following High School, Lyle was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam. After he was Honorably Discharged in 1968, Lyle drove truck, hauling cattle across the U.S. and later worked at Telelect in Huron, SD. On March 16, 1984 Lyle was united in marriage to Donna Myran. In 1985, Lyle & Donna moved out to the Myran family farm in rural Wessington Springs where Lyle began his lifelong career of farming. This is where they raised their two daughters, Brigitte and Kortne. Lyle & Donna continued their operation until 2012, when they retired and moved to Marion, SD to be closer to family. Lyle had a deep love for the outdoors, hunting, fishing & racing. His hunting and fishing adventures spread out across South Dakota as well as Alaska, Idaho, Wisconsin & Mississippi; hunting moose, caribou, elk, bear, deer, pheasants, ducks & geese. His girls were his pride and joy. His fondest memories included their many hunting, fishing, and camping trips he took over the years. Lyle's love for hunting found him spending hours scouting and supporting several organizations involving the outdoors. You could always find Lyle in the stands cheering on his kids and grandkids in all their activities and sporting events over the years. He thoroughly enjoyed pulling pranks and telling jokes, especially on his girls and their friends. Lyle later became "Papa", which he embraced and loved. Spoiling his grandkids and sneaking them extra snacks and goodies was his favorite. Lyle is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Donna, children Brigitte (Lance) Hamman of Milbank, SD and Kortne (Josh Biel) of Sioux Falls, SD. Grateful to call him "Papa" are Presley (11), Laiken (8), and Brinkley (6). He is also survived by his sister, Sharill of Cedaredge, CO, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard & Gladys Moldrem, father and mother-in-law Conrad & Viola Myran, a sister-in-law DeAnn Myran and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
