Sharon spent her working life as ['Sanford Hospital'] and held deeply to the Lutheran faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

Sharon (Ness) Mikkelson, 72 of Viborg, passed away on January 4, 2024 at the Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls. Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Monday, January 8, 2024 at Spring Valley Lutheran Church, rural Viborg. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Chapel, Viborg. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home. Sharon was born on November 17, 1951 in Sioux Falls, SD to James and Ethel (Steenholdt) Tyler. She attended school to become a CNA. On May 20. 1972 she was united in marriage to Rodney Ness, Sr. To this union they had three children Rodney Jr, Roger, and Robbie. They lived in Sioux Falls before moving to Viborg in 1974. Sharon worked at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home from 1975 to 1989 as a CNA. She also worked for Sanford Hospital, the Parker Nursing Home, and Wakonda Heritage Manor. She retired in 2001 due to health reasons. Rodney passed on November 12, 2014. On July 25, 2021 she was united in marriage to Rodney Mikkelsen. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, crocheting, playing bingo and spending time with her grandchildren. Sharon will be missed. She is survived by her husband Rodney of Viborg; 3 children Rodney, Jr. (Becky) of Kokomo, MS, Roger (Pam) of Wakonda, and Robbie (Brenda Metler) of Menno; 5 grandchildren Brooke, Cody, Tyler, Destiny and Braylee Ness; step-grandchild Tiffany Neyens; two great-grandchildren Cason Ness and NJ Powell; 3 step-great-grandchildren Kaden, Kali, and Cami Neyens. She is preceded by her husband Rodney Ness, parents James and Ethel Tyler, brother Marvin Tyler, and granddaughter Megan Ness.
