With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Sheila Kropuenske, 60,.

These are the contours of a life that meant a great deal to many.

Sheila entered this world in 1963 — the start of a journey that would span 61 years.

Sheila held deeply to the Lutheran faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

What Sheila believed shaped how she loved.

Sheila Kropuenske, 60, of rural Humboldt, passed away peacefully at her home, on January 12th, 2024. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Monday, January 22, 2024 at Grace Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Sunday, January 21, at the church with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be directed to the Parker Volunteer Fire Department, Humboldt Fire and Ambulance service, or your local volunteer emergency responders. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home. Sheila was born on August 8, 1963, to Richard and Karyn Becking. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Florence High School. Sheila married Glen Kropuenske in August of 1985. The family welcomed three children and settled on an acreage outside of Humboldt. Sheila was devoted to her faith and caring for others. As an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Parker, Sheila taught Sunday school and served on the church council. Sheila balanced caring for her family and part-time nursing classes at Augustana College, graduating in 1995. She worked as a registered nurse at the Sanford Medical Center and during that same time served as a volunteer EMT for both the Humboldt and Parker Ambulance Services. After being diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1997, Sheila organized a parish nursing service in several Parker area churches. Sheila was passionate about providing hope to others struggling with cancer or illness throughout her more than 20 years as a cancer survivor. She was an avid collector of angels and loved to sew and make needlepoint Christmas stockings. She is survived by her husband of 38 years: Glen Kropuenske; their three children: Alisha (Andy) Janes, Nathan (Kimberly) Kropuenske, Westin (Heather) Kropuenske; five grandchildren: Kensington, Raegan, Kainen, Lainey, and Bryer; mother: Karyn Becking; and two brothers: Todd (Darla) Becking, and Bill (Sheila) Becking. Sheila was preceded in death by her father: Richard Becking; grandparents: Pete and Verena Berkemo, and Nellie and Edward Becking; and good friend: Teresa Shaver. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Sanford Home Hospice team for their extraordinary care and specifically to Glen for his decades of dedicated caregiving.
