James A. "Jim" Olson, 90, of Hurley, SD has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved him.

A life is more than dates on a stone; here is a small portion of his story.

James's story began in 1935, in the family home east of Davis SD to Howard M, and unfolded across the years that followed.

James spent his working life as ['the Davis Elevator'] and held deeply to the Lutheran faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Belief, when lived, becomes a kind of inheritance.

James A. "Jim" Olson, 90 of Hurley, passed away on November 24, 2025 at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home, Viborg. Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 29, 2025 at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Hurley. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM on Saturday at the church. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home.James Arlowe Olson was born in the family home east of Davis SD to Howard M.Olson Sr. and Jeanette (Noteboom) Olson on June 15th 1935. He was the 5th of 8 children. He attended most of his elementary school in Davis and graduated high school in Centerville SD in 1953.He married Annette Ginaven on June 22nd 1958 just after completing Army basic training. They then lived in California and then in Germany until his discharge in November 1959. They had two children, Lauren James and Machelle Ann. Through the years he operated service stations in Davis and Hurley, worked at the Davis Elevator, and farmed with his brother Howard.Jim passed away November 24th 2025. The last of his siblings.Grateful for having shared his life Children: Lauren (Deb) Olson, Mitchell SD; Machelle (Galen) Albers, Howard SD; 5 grandchildren Ann Gilbert; Brook (Larry) Meyer; Candace (Aaron) Kleinsasser; Andrea Olson (Dillion Giedd); Jordan Olson, and 10 great grandchildren; Addyson, Camden, Natalie (Gilbert); Alexis, Jacey, Caleb (Meyer); and Audrey, Ethan, Colin, Davis (Kleinsasser).He was preceded in death by his wife Annette of over 61 years, his parents and siblings.
