Evelyn G. Gill, 92,, has passed away, leaving behind a family and community who loved her dearly.

What follows is a brief look at the life her family wishes to share.

Born in 1925, Evelyn began a life that would touch many along the way.

Evelyn held deeply to the Lutheran faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

The community of faith holds its own well — and Evelyn was held.

Evelyn Gill, 92 died Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 11:00am Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Spring Valley Lutheran Church, rural Viborg with burial at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7pm Wednesday evening at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home, Viborg. Evelyn Grace (Johnson) Gill was born on January 6, 1925 to Albert and Sena (Larsen) Johnson. She grew up in the Viborg area and graduated from Viborg High School in 1943. On October 12, 1946 she was united in marriage to Leonard Gill. Because of his work they lived throughout the United States. Evelyn furthered her education by attending various Community Colleges and received her real estate license in Arizona and California. They had begun work on their retirement home near Tea, SD when Leonard passed away. Evelyn then moved to Modesto, CA to be near her daughter, Gloria. She was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church and Sons of Norway where she held many of the offices. In 2000 her daughter Gloria passed away and Evelyn moved to Sioux Falls where she resided at the time of her death. She was a member of First Lutheran Church. Grateful for having shared her life are 4 grandchildren, John (Kristen) Vargas, Modesto, CA, Julie Vargas, Modesto, CA, Paul (Michelle) Bongiorno, Byram, NJ, and Chad (Shannon) Bongiorno, Netcong, NJ; 5 great grandchildren, Blayne, Lindsey, Ryan, Jessica, and Jack; a sister Ruth Ann Payne, Lawrenceville, GA; 2 sisters in law, Connie Johnson and Loretta Johnson, both of Sioux Falls; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard, 2 daughters, Elaine Bongiorno and Gloria Vargas, a grandson Loni Bongiorno, 2 sisters Bernice Stevens and Elaine Jorgenson, and 2 brothers Harlan Johnson and Dale Johnson.
