Susan Ahrendt, 62, has gone home, leaving behind a circle of those who loved her.

Here is what we wish the world to know of Susan.

Born in 1960, Susan began a life that would touch many along the way.

Susan held deeply to the Lutheran faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew her best.

Faith is a quiet companion through a long life. Susan's walked beside her.

Susan Marcine Ahrendt (Hames) "Sue", 62, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away on February 4th, 2023 at Palisade Healthcare Community in Garretson, South Dakota with her loving husband Wayne by her side. Visitation will be at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Friday, February 10th from 5:00-7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 11th at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with Pastor Jason Burggraff officiating. Burial will take place in LeMars, Iowa later this Spring. Lunch will be served following the service at First Lutheran Church. Sue was born in Sioux City, Iowa on October 4th, 1960, and was adopted and raised by Richard and Marcine Hames of LeMars, Iowa. She attended and graduated from LeMars Community High School in 1979. She received a nursing degree in 1981 from Western Iowa Technical Community College. As a registered nurse Sue loved caring for children and worked at multiple hospitals throughout the Midwest including Children's Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, the University of Iowa Children's Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, and for Dr. Marwan Hanna, M.D. at the Avera McKennan Hospital campus in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Sue worked in many areas throughout her career, but her favorite was pediatric oncology. She strove to treat every child with dignity, honesty, and respect throughout their hospital stay while providing passionate care with a smile and a laugh. It made her day to try and improve theirs, if just for a moment. Sue was married to Wayne Ahrendt on September 19th, 1998. During their time together Sue and Wayne enjoyed bowling, playing cards, golfing, and going on trips with their friends. She was an avid collector of depression glass and loved to visit flea markets with her best friend and "big sister" Diane Bixenman, to hunt for Cherry Blossom patterns. She loved cooking, reading, and watching sports in her spare time and enjoyed going to her stepson Andy's baseball games. Sue is preceded in death by her father Richard P. Hames (1989), brother Richy Hames (1982), Francis Hames (1951), and sister Patricia Hames (1951). Grateful to have shared her life are her mother Marcine Hames, husband Wayne Ahrendt, and stepson Andrew Ahrendt. All expressions of sympathy are welcomed.
