After a life of love and quiet grace, Chet Malin, 86, has passed.

Below, a small portrait of a life that will not soon be forgotten.

Chet entered this world in 1932 — the start of a journey that would span 86 years.

Chet held deeply to the Catholic faith — and was, by all accounts, loved by those who knew him best.

Some answer a call. Chet was one of them.

Chet Malin, 86 of Viborg, passed away on November 6, 2018. Mass of Chirstian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at St. Boniface Idylwilde Catholic Church in rural Freeman. Visitation will be from 5:00-6:30 PM Monday, November 12, 2018 at the church with a wake service starting at 6:30 PM. Chet Malin was born on May 8, 1932 to Chester and Alice Malinowski in Jamaica, Queens, New York. Chet served in the United States Air Force as a Tail Gunner, serving in the Korean War. Chet met and married Eileen Connors on September 3, 1955. To this union four children were born; Dale, Donna, Jill, and Gregory. While living in Deer Park, Long Island, Chet started his own cleaning business called "Chet Malin Floor Waxing and Repair". While he was there, he hired people with disabilities to work for him, giving many their first chance at a job. Chet also worked at OTB (Off-Track Betting) in New York as the manager. After retiring in 1999, he decided he was tired of the East Coast and moved to Viborg. Chet loved being involved in the community, always trying to help out. Chet was a member of St. Boniface Idylwilde Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He is also a proud member of the VFW of Viborg and Deer Park, Long Island, NY. Chet also enjoyed flying his airplane, taking his kids from Long Island to Connecticut just for an ice cream cone. He was a member of the Lions Club and the Republican Party, serving on committees for them. Grateful for having shared his life are his 3 daughters, Dale Cush, Nesquehoning, PA, Donna (Bill) Manning, Jackson, NJ, and Jill (John) Gemelli, Palm Coast, FL; 5 grandchildren, Joshua, Jesi, Samantha (Stephen) Van Buren, Ashleigh, and Nikki; and a great-granddaughter, Aliyah; and sister Sandra of Merrick, Long Island. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara, wife Eileen in 2002, and son Greg in 2017.
